Morgan - BiographyUntil his retirement in 2002 Michael Morgan was director of Research Partnerships & Ventures at the Wellcome Trust and chief executive of the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Cambridge. Dr. Morgan joined the Wellcome Trust in 1983 and was responsible for development of new enterprises such as DIAMOND, the new third generation synchrotron being built in partnership with the UK government and the SNPs Consortium ( TSC ), a partnership of the Trust and 12 private companies. He played a major role in the international coordination of the human genome project and was also responsible for scientific establishments such as the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus. He is presently a Consultant for Special Projects at the Wellcome Trust and as such is a director of DIAMOND and Chairman of the Structural Genomics Consortium, a partnership with Canadian and Swedish public entities and GSK tasked with determining the structures of human proteins of importance to human health. All of these partnerships are dedicated to putting their data into the public domain as early as possible and with no restrictions on its use. Dr Morgan is a Trustee of the Institute of Cancer Research and the Scottish Crop Research Institute. He is a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, and obtained his PhD from Leicester University.
