Establishment of the Comprehensive Information System on Natural Disaster Mitigation (CISDM)

Approved by the CODATA 25th General Assembly, Beijing 2006

CISDM Task group will work on the major natural hazards and disaster mitigation, establishment of natural disaster database including historic database and the real-time database, and will strive to set up the integrative scientific and technological model system for disaster preparedness and disaster mitigation in one or two developing counties or regions. The Task group encourages and facilitates worldwide knowledge sharing and co-operating in natural disaster mitigation of scientific and technical data. The Task Group will organize meetings on science and technology of disaster mitigation, disaster management, standardization and quality control of the disaster database.

During 2006-2008, CISDM task group will organize a survey on the disaster data resources worldwide. And by 2008, CISDM task group will publish a research report on the disaster database and application in disaster mitigation.

In October, 2006, some experts from the  CISDM task group will take part in the international training course of disaster management and mitigation for participants from developing counties in China, and then all the experts and participants will have a sub-conference on disaster mitigation and disaster data sharing worldwide under the the 17^th DSAO task group conference in Beijing . At the 2008 General Assembly, CISDM task group will provide a full report on global disaster mitigation.

CISDM will continuously to focus on Natural Disaster Mitigation Comprehensive Information System. CISDM task group will cooperate with the relevant member countries and IAP( InterAcademy Panel on International Issues) to promote the construction of the Comprehensive Information system, in order to share data and exchange knowledge. CISDM will develop and integrated  diaster Models, and by 2008, CISDM task group will set up a portal of disaster Comprehensive Information system in one or two developing countries or regions.

The CISDM task group will organize the meeting on disaster data sharing, data exchanging and data application by keeping up with the S&T development in the whole world. By these meetings, new cooperation among countries, regions and international organizations on Natural Disaster Mitigation will be promoted. Furthermore, CISDM task group will provide new proposals to the CODATA to set up new task groups or work groups.
