Organization

National organization CODATA – Czech Republic was registered on 7th May 2003. It is a civic association with accredit Statute.

The main goals of our organization are metadata for e-Government and process of document arrangement for Cabinet, Geo Information and Information Process Management.

National Committee Activities

National Committee Czech CODATA organized in 2004 the first joint meeting of the national CODATA committees from the Czech Republic, Germany and France. This workshop took place in Prague, Hrzansky Palace on 29th March 2004.

The meeting had been initiated by Horst Kremers, CODATA-DE, to promote better contacts between European national committees, especially with respect to finding mutual interest in CODATA-oriented work, to linking-up personal contacts and activating the potential for increased CODATA awareness, to initiate proposals of projects of research and cooperation, to finding partners and ultimately to fixing plans for joint action.

The main speakers were:

• Jacques-Emile Dubois, Chair CODATA-FR,

• Horst Kremers, chair CODATA-DE,

• Jan Duben, chair CODADA-CZ etc.

• Martin Turek, Deputy Head of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic.

A variety of topics was discussed by the participants, among them proposals on new methods for geosciences applications; data quality issues in data integration decision making; the role of health data in information society; data for disaster prevention, management and decision making; metadata for e-Government.

In summary, all participants found stimulating ways of jointly contributing to CODATA work on both national and international level, thereby activating scientific dialogue within the CODATA framework.

World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

Czech CODATA strongly supports idea of CODATA participation in the World Summit on the Information Society which is going to hold in Tunis. The first Summit gave us a chance to exchange opinions but second one has to start conceptual work which will give results. Czech CODATA has have very good experiences with metadata for e-Government and process of arrangement documents for Cabinet and as well as the role, handling, visualizing and using of geographic information in the process of design of spatial data infrastructures as a part of Information Infrastructures. We are also actively developing concepts of Information/Knowledge-Based Society in the Czech Republic.
