Prof. GUO Huadong is currently Director-General of the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He has been engaged in remote sensing research since 1977, carrying out research on radar remote sensing, development of new earth observing systems, remote sensing applications and digital earth sciences.

With over 300 publications including 15 books, he has been Principle Investigator for more than 20 major national projects in China , and PI for eight international radar remote sensing programs, as well as a Guest Professor at seven Universities.  He was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Science by Curtin University of Technology, Australia. He was appointed position of “Leading Scientist of the national expert committee for information acquisition and processing technology ”. Currently he is the project Principal Scientist of Earth observation for Global Environmental Change, one of the national basic research program. He was awarded “National Outstanding Expert” by the State Council of China in 2000.
