CODATA International Workshop
Motion and Vital Data Acquisition, Storage and Trends for Aging Population

Tel Aviv, Israel
25-27 February 2013

BACKGROUND DOCUMENT

CODATA is organizing on February 25th to 27th, 2013 an International Workshop to deal with the challenges the Aging population is posing us. The venue of the Workshop will be held at Dan Panorama Hotel in Tel Aviv. The participation in the Workshop is by invitations only to ensure fruitful discussion between invited experts from all relevant fields. On February 27th, 2013 parallel to the last day of the Workshop an International Conference will be open to the public to give an excellent opportunity for networking and an overview of the current technologies and advancing trends.

Experts who would like to be invited by the Organizing Committee to participate in the Workshop discussions are expected to apply and register.

The immediate consequence of the radical improvements in medical treatments of the world population is a significant growth in the elderly population and their quality of life. As aging is directly related to elderly persons’ abilities to take care of themselves, care giving services suffer from a tremendous overload, which can be balanced only by enabling “aging at home”. The data show that the elderly population is not only expected to grow, but will grow faster than the rest of the population. It is expected that in some countries in 2030 there will be about one working person for each retiree.

The expected solution to enable Aging Well at home is to develop a telecare solution, based on intelligent sensing in the elderly person’s home with a real time Care Giver response. Research performed more than a decade ago enabled development of such an intelligent “Smart Home”.

However, the current technology enables only data acquisition. There are still many limitations to communication, data storage/retrieval and dissemination. Even the new cloud computing environment can be used advantageously to prevent loss of the accumulated data.

The Workshop goal is to plan a Road Map for the research and business community to enable efficient advancement toward a realistic solution.
