Qinghai-Lake Investigation and Research Data Integration Portal: A Case Study in Semantic Grid

Abstract: Data Grid technology is an effective solution to manage distributed data collections, it provides a global logic resource view to the end-users and hides the heterogeneity of different resources and systems, end-users could access the data without knowing the location, storage resource type or other physical details of it. But semantic relations between data are still not resolved in Data Grid stage, at the same time, Semantic Grid is becoming a hot research area in scientific data management field recently. In this paper, we’ll explore the basic concepts of the Data Integration, Data Grid, Semantic web technology and Semantic Grid, then give an example of Semantic Grid application in SDC: Qinghai-Lake Investigation and Research Data Integration Portal. The portal is one of the works in project “The Research of Scientific data integration method and key technology based on Knowledge” which is supported by the CNIC Young Scientists Fund. We’ll discuss the background, technical framework and some features of this portal in detail, at last some future works will be introduced.
