The 21st century is the era of knowledge-based economy. The informatization degree predominantly demonstrates the comprehensive national power in one country. How to enhance competitive capabilities of science and technology has become the important issue.

The innovation of science and technology needs the support from massive data of basic sciences, therefore the better preservation of data from basic science and realizing highly sharing can speed up the process of progress in science and technology. The preservation and sharing of the data from science and technology have been taking into account in our country, a set of scientific databases covering every area of science and technology have established. As the first university in our country, in which the main specialized field is the optics, we have constructed the database of optical system. The database is a practical sub-database of optics. Through analysis, arrangement and preservation to the published patent information home and abroad, the database contains the information on optical lens, optical materials and the common state criterion about optical systems. The inquired data for the database includes not only the structural data, but also the data and graph of image quality evaluation. Each sub-database of optical system database can provide on-line service. We have established the connection between the database and the optical design software, and the two factors can provide data mutually.
