Korea has opened KGEO Secretariat
and is executing actions in order to respond effectively on international
cooperation of GEOSS science and technology in a national viewpoint and to
perform implementation project of National GEOSS successfully. Thus, we have surveyed
domestic status in 9 benefit areas of GEOSS for establishing more progressive
National GEOSS. Status survey has been processed in two methods. First, we had
prepared questionnaires with 5 sections including standardization, information
system operation and management, source data and metadata status, infrastructure
status and other considerations and suggestions, and visited 9 institutions
that are generating the earth observation data to carry out face-to-face survey
with 12 specialists. Second, we had surveyed, collected, classified and analyzed
earth observation data for individual areas such as meteorology, agriculture,
ecosystem, biological diversity, disaster, water resources, health, weather,
energy, forest, sea, geographical information, and so on opened on internet
sites. From the survey results, it indicated that domestic institutes of each
area have generated and used a diverse range of earth observation data and
international standards on geographical and metrological information are
prepared and commonly utilized through the world. It is considered that the
survey results will be utilized as basic data for implementing national GEOSS
in the future.
